About us
Sasori Shotokan Karate Clubs are a group of London based clubs established in 1983 and run by A G Sanna sensei, a Rokudan: 6th Dan Black Belt.
We combine the best of traditional Japanese Karate with modern training and open-minded learning.
And what is “Shotokan” Karate?
Shotokan is one of the most widely practiced traditional forms of Karate in the World. Introduced to Japan from Okinawa by Master Funakoshi in 1922, Shotokan focuses on Kihon (basic techniques), Kata (forms), and Kumite (sparring) to develop a range of powerful, dynamic and practical techniques.
Kara-Te is a form of unarmed combat: in fact the word literally means ‘Empty Hand’. So there are no weapons involved, the entire Body is used for blocking, punching and striking.
The refined style of Shotokan we teach today is designed to help you develop not only your body but your mind and character too.
Give Karate a try
We teach men, women and children of all abilities and new members are always welcome. So if you’d like to find out more, take a look at What to Expect then contact us. Alternatively, just come along to watch or bring some tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt and have a go.
Is Karate for you?
Karate attracts people of all ages from a wide range of backgrounds, races and religions, irrespective of their ability or disability. Men, women, children and entire families all train with us. Why? Because they enjoy the physical and mental challenges, as well as the chance to develop and progress through grades.
(We accept kids from as young as eight, but only at our Chelsea class which is structured around their needs.)
There are fitness benefits too, so if you’re bored with the gym or want to supplement other workouts or routines with an activity that’s perhaps a bit more rewarding, why not give Karate a try?
