What to expect

Instructors and qualifications
From the minute you arrive, you’ll be in the safe, professional hands of Sensei A G Sanna Rokudan (6th Dan Black Belt). Sensei is one of Europe's most highly qualified instructors and at Sasori he is supported by a small group of fully trained Assistant Instructors.

Your first session
When you arrive at our dojo (place of training) for the first time, it’s only natural to feel a little nervous. But we’re a friendly bunch, ready to give you a warm welcome. The Sensei (Instructor) will explain what you need to do throughout the class and every session is designed to help you get the most out of your training, right from the start.

How the class is structured
With so many aspects to Karate, every class is different – which means the training stays fresh, interesting and challenging (both mentally and physically). However, every session starts with a warm-up and stretching exercises. You’ll then be taught various punches and strikes, kicks and blocks. You’ll also learn how to execute these moves effectively from the various stances we use.

What you need to wear
Tracksuit bottoms, a t-shirt and bare feet are all you need to get started. If you want to continue, you can purchase a Karate Suit (called a Gi) from Sensei Sanna.

How often you should train
Karate is just like everything else in life: what you get out of it depends on what you’re prepared to put in. So if you want to progress at a reasonable pace, we recommend you train a minimum of twice a week.

Grading and coloured belts
Nothing quite beats the sense of achievement that comes with earning each colour belt as you advance. And with Gradings (Examinations) held every three to four months, there are plenty of opportunities for you to do so. The Gradings are held under the supervision of a Senior Examiner and you’ll be taught the relevant Syllabus in advance, so you’ll be well prepared on the day.

Events and other activities
Our clubs provide opportunities to participate in National and International Courses and Events throughout the year, as well as train with some of the world's most renowned Instructors. We hold our own training and social events too and you're welcome to attend any of them.

Competitions
In Karate, we often say the only person you’re competing with is yourself. On the other hand, there are plenty of Events you can enter or come along to watch. It’s completely up to you.
